What we tested
| File | OrcaSlicer said | Actual problem | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| 40 × 20 × 12 mm block saved in meters | No layers were detected. … | Clean solid at 1/1000 scale | Not sliced |
| 40 × 20 mm plate, 0.08 mm thick | No layers were detected. … | Clean solid, thinner than the 0.2 mm first layer | Not sliced |
| 40 × 20 mm surface, no thickness | No message (command line, exit 206) | Open sheet, height 0 (16 open edges) | Not sliced |
| 40 × 20 mm plate, 0.2 mm thick | No error | Clean solid, one layer thick | Sliced as one layer |
| Same block saved in inches | No error | Clean solid at 1/25.4 scale | Sliced at 1/25.4 size, 2 layers |
| Same block in millimetres | No error | Clean solid | Sliced, 60 layers |
What is going on
The error comes from the slicing step: after cutting the model into layers, OrcaSlicer found none (source). It is one of the few OrcaSlicer slicing errors its command line prints in full; most only set an exit code.
A surface with no thickness did not reach this message: the command line stopped with exit code 206, which it uses for an empty plate. A block saved in inches sliced without an error at 1/25.4 of its size. Bambu Studio and PrusaSlicer print the same message.
FixSTL reported the meter-scale block and the 0.08 mm plate as clean solids and showed their size; it does not change units or thickness, so its repair leaves both files as they were.
What was actually wrong
How to fix it
- Check the object's size in OrcaSlicer. If it is a fraction of a millimetre, scale it by 1000 (saved in meters) or 25.4 (saved in inches).
- If the size is right, check the height: a part thinner than the first layer (0.2 mm in the 0.20 mm Standard profile) gives the slicer nothing to cut.
- Make thin parts at least one layer thick in your modelling program and export again.
- Check the file in FixSTL: it shows the part's size, and a height of 0 means a surface with no thickness.
