Bambu Studio 02.08.02.61, macOS, command line: Bambu Lab A1 0.4 mm, 0.20 mm Standard system profile (0.2 mm first layer), supports off. The message prints verbatim on the command line's error output with exit code 156. Nothing was printed.

What is going on

The error comes from the slicing step: after cutting the model into layers, Bambu Studio found none (source). When you open a meter-scale file in the app, Bambu Studio first offers to scale it to millimetres (Object too small); answering No keeps it at 0.04 mm, and that file stops here.

A surface with no thickness did not reach this message: the command line reported the plate as empty (exit 206) instead. A block saved in inches sliced without an error at 1/25.4 of its size. OrcaSlicer prints the same message, and so does PrusaSlicer.

FixSTL reported the meter-scale block and the 0.08 mm plate as clean solids and showed their size; it does not change units or thickness, so its repair leaves both files as they were.

What was actually wrong

How to fix it

  1. Check the object's size in Bambu Studio. If it is a fraction of a millimetre, scale it by 1000 (saved in meters) or 25.4 (saved in inches).
  2. If the size is right, check the height: a part thinner than the first layer (0.2 mm in the 0.20 mm Standard profile) gives the slicer nothing to cut.
  3. Make thin parts at least one layer thick in your modelling program and export again.
  4. Check the file in FixSTL: it shows the part's size, and a height of 0 means a surface with no thickness.
