Bambu Studio 02.08.02.61, macOS, command line: --info gives the object-list counts; slices used the A1 0.4 mm, 0.20 mm Standard profile, supports off. "Same filament" compares G-code from the original and from FixSTL's repair. Nothing was printed.

What is going on

Bambu Studio counts an edge as non-manifold when three or more triangles share it, measured after the repair it runs on every STL it loads (source). That repair pulls simple cases apart first: two cubes touching along one edge showed no error at all in our test, and two merged cubes with a wall left between them showed "Info: 4 open edges" instead.

In this version the non-manifold vertex count is never filled in, so the longer variant "Error: N non-manifold edges, M non-manifold vertices" does not appear.

FixSTL repaired 12 of the 60 files to a verified solid. The others were only partly repaired, mostly because parts overlap or the damage is too large to rebuild locally; the full results are on How we test.

What was actually wrong

How to fix it

  1. Check the file in FixSTL. It lists the non-manifold edges together with the duplicate faces, self-intersections and overlapping parts that usually come with them.
  2. Apply the repair. Duplicate faces, unwelded seams, thin flaps and small damaged patches are fixed; overlapping parts are left as they are.
  3. If parts overlap, join them with a boolean union in your modelling program and export again.
  4. Re-import into Bambu Studio and scrub the layer preview where the error was.
