What is going on

Bambu Studio checks whether each object needs support before it generates any and warns when supports are off (source). The check (source) reports "floating cantilever" when a part reaches out more than 6 mm with nothing under it, and "floating regions" when a part starts in mid-air. The message table also has a "large overhangs" variant, but this version never produces it.

Repairing the mesh does not change the shape, so it does not clear this warning. It matters only when the overhang is leftover geometry, such as a cutter that was hidden in the modelling program but still exported.

What was actually wrong

How to fix it

  1. Slice with supports off and look at where the model overhangs; the warning names the object, not the spot.
  2. If the overhang is meant to be there, enable supports or re-orient the part and slice again.
  3. If it should not be there, check the file in FixSTL: an exported boolean cutter shows up as overlapping parts.
  4. Remove the leftover geometry in your modelling program and export again.
