What we tested
| File | Bambu Studio said | Actual problem | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two 20 mm blocks, the second floating 5 mm above the first | Object can't be printed for empty layer between 10 and 15.2. | 2 separate parts, nothing between 10 and 15 mm | Not sliced |
| Thingi10K 52310 by Typhoon69 (CC BY-SA) | Object can't be printed for empty layer between 10 and 11.4. | 1,334 open edges, 141 shells, 5,742 self-intersections; FixSTL repaired it partly | Not sliced, before or after repair |
What is going on
The full error adds the object name and "Maybe parts of the object at these height are too thin, or the object has faulty mesh" (source). The heights are the last layer with something printed and the next one.
A badly broken surface can cause it too: on a public file with 141 loose shells, the error stayed after FixSTL's partial repair. PrusaSlicer reports the same gap as a warning and slices anyway.
What was actually wrong
How to fix it
- Note the two heights in the message and scrub the layer preview to them.
- Check the file in FixSTL: separate shells and large holes are listed.
- Connect or lower the floating part in your modelling program, or split it into its own object on the plate.
- If the gap is a thin feature, thicken it; if the mesh is badly broken, rebuild it.
